Understanding the Branding Process

 

Branding goes beyond your logo. It’s your business’s entire personality. It’s how you communicate with your audience and the language you use within your marketing materials. From your tagline, tone of voice, key colours, and messaging, right the way through to your company name, each of these elements contribute to building solid foundations for your business.

Here’s our usual process as experts in designing brands…

 

Step 1: Brand Discovery

 

When you work with us on your branding, we start all new projects with a brand discovery meeting. This is an opportunity for you to sit down with our designers to discuss your visions and share any inspiration you may have found. It’s a great way for us to get a better understanding of your business and the story you want to tell.

It’s important that you come to a brand discovery meeting with some examples of other branding and logos you like. They don’t have to be from companies in the same industry as you and you may want to make lots of tweaks – individuality is key – but this will at least give us a starting point and allow us to get to know the style you’re looking to capture.

 

Step 2: Tagline and Name Ideation

 

Next, our design team will brainstorm internally to come up with some ideas for both your tagline and brand name. Of course, if these have already been decided by you, there is no need to repeat this process.

During this phase, we will draw on our innovative natures to come up with unique ideas and will also check to ensure they aren’t already used elsewhere. Following the ideation process, we will then share our suggestions with you for you to choose from.

 

Step 3: Logo Creation and Colour Selection

 

Stage 3 is where the design work really starts. It’s during this phase that we will begin working on your logo creation based on the information you shared with us in the brand discovery meeting. During this process, we will also develop your key colours to add another element of uniformity.

Often, brands require several different versions or sizes of their logo. We will also produce these for you so that you have them to use across your marketing materials later.

 

Step 4: Business Card Mock-Ups

 

It always looks professional to have your own business cards. If needed, step 4 is all about creating the mock-ups for these and once agreed, we can also arrange to get them printed for you. As experts in designing brands, we know how to make business cards that stand out, encouraging the person on the other end to pick up the phone.

 

Step 5: Packaging (If Applicable)

 

Product packaging, if applicable to your business, is just as important, if not more, as producing your brand’s logo. According to research, 81% of consumers surveyed admitted to purchasing a product based on visually appealing packaging.

Strong product packaging should tell a customer two things – exactly what the product is and the brand behind it. Your packaging should also reflect your price point. If you’re looking to enter the high-end market, for example, your product needs to be made from quality materials.

 

Step 6: Branding Guidelines

 

Last but by no means least, when you work with our team, we will also put together a set of comprehensive branding guidelines when each element has been agreed upon. This document will tell your story, coming in handy when marketing your business further down the line.

Branding guidelines will include key information such as your brand’s colour codes, fonts, and the different logo sizes and versions. Anyone who picks up and looks through this document should leave with a clear understanding of your brand’s mission, identity, and ethos.
